Birthday
Posted on August 7th, 2009 17 comments
My birthday is this Tuesday. It won’t be extravagant but I think it will be meaningful and special, mainly because I’m in a place where I’m able to slow down and enjoy simple pleasures and frugal luxuries, and be present in the abundance in my life. Being able to reflect on who you are and feel grateful for the gifts we have in our lives are really some of the best ways to celebrate being alive.
That being said, I do think that one of the nicest ways a single gal can celebrate her birthday is to spoil herself, and luckily for me, this doesn’t need to mean spending money. I have managed to save up some credit notes and gift cards to afford myself a neat little shopping spree without spending a dime. This includes a $40 gift card at the Bookshelf (Guelph’s nicest book store), courtesy of their newspaper, Off the Shelf, for which I’ve written a couple of reviews. I also have a $20 credit note at Winners, a $5 credit note at a local art supply store, and a free piece of cake at Williams. So I look forward to enjoying a few treats before heading out to my parent’s place to celebrate with a nice dinner out.
What do you like to do for yourself on your birthday? Any suggestions?

Yay for August babies! My b-day is the 17th. This year I’m treating myself to a mani/pedi so I can look extra pretty and polished for my sister’s wedding on the 15th. I also have some gift cards to use so I might do that too

Hope your day is a great one! It certainly sounds that way from your description. Plus, with books and art supplies, you can enjoy those luxuries for many days thereafter. Such a wise woman you are! Many happy returns to you!

I buy myself books on my birthday. I do love books!
And August babies are the coolest. My little man will be one on the 13th. I hope you have a great day. Happy birthday, Saver Queen!

Happy Birthday to you! My birthday is on Monday(!)
I’ve always made it a point not to work on my birthday. I would take the day off whether I had planned to do something special or not.
This year, my family is going camping for the week.A whole week of fun and chillaxing with my hubby and our 2 lil angels.. I can’t ask for a better bday gift.
Enjoy your day on Tuesday!
Cheers!

Wishing you a very happy and blessed Birthday!! We’re low key celebrators in our family. I had my day in June and the big luxury for us is to go to our favorite Mexican restaurant! We usually have a coupon (buy one meal get one for 3.99). If there is no coupon available during birthday week, Mike and I will usually split the large combination meal (this comes with four entrees plus rice and beans) I choose two entrees and Mike 2. The kids will usually split 2 meals between the three of them. This is always more than enough food (we usually bring a box of leftovers home) especially as we are also filling up with their delicious chips and salsa before the food arrives!! The girls make the cake (or, cup cakes) and the presents are usually very inexpensive but fun. This year the kids bought me the “Bump It” (9.99 from local store) a chopper/press I’ve been wanting to simplify the veggie chopping I do (we eat a lot of fresh food). And Mike bought me a new digital camera because mine old (not very good one) died a few months before my b-day and I really “needed” one to document my adventures for the blog!
All these little things are so appreciated and seem luxurious and a treat to us because we don’t do them on a regular basis. I’m sending good thoughts to you on your birthday and always!! May it be filled with gentle blessings, kindnesses and much joy.
Warmly,
Tracey -
