I thought I would share a few more frugal luxuries today. Focusing on what we have is such a lovely way to lift our spirits on dreary days. Since it’s been blizzarding this week (is it really April?) I thought it would be the perfect time to celebrate frugal luxuries in our home.

My friend from The Nature Hogg surprised me with a beautiful sampling of herb seedlings in a biodegradable pot.  I have a terrible black thumb but really want to grow fresh herbs, so I hope that I can sustain these gorgeous little sprouts.

Someone else was, of course, intensely curious about this new green life in the house.  She didn’t try to eat the herbs though. But I’m watching her, just in case.

My friend also made this delicious apple cake.  She said it was meant to be a sour cream cake, but ran out of sour cream and used yogurt instead.  It seemed to work just as well.

I bought this Lilly of the Valley mug at the St. Jacob’s market by a local potter for $5.  I loved the idea of having something beautiful to hold my morning mug of coffee and to celebrate the morning.  It was a frugal treat.

I love bringing my attention towards beauty, simplicity and peace that already exists within my life.  It’s such a great way to cultivate a happy existence without looking outwards. It certainly makes you feel rich and satisfied.

What frugal luxuries are you enjoying today?

    1. Keep those herbs lightly watered or the roots will rot, SQ…I never used to have luck either, but last year was astounded with how well the herbs took once I moved them from indoors to the ground outside. I’ve still got more frozen parlsey, thyme, mint, and sage than I know what to do with! Once the frost is over put them outside so they can enjoy growing in the sun. I think that was the trick with mine last year, full afternoon (hot) sun and no cats chewing on them anymore.

As for frugal luxuries today, I might try a good stretch/yoga session in the wee little 4 person gym in my office today. I’ve been saying I’m going to do it since January, but after my first boot camp class (and first time sweating since last Summer, ouch) last night, today calls for an Epsom salts bath this evening and a stretch session today.

Enjoy the last cleansing snow of the season. I hope so anyway…the winter tires were taken off last week and according to the mechanic, the all-seasons are down to ‘good for Summer only’ status now!

    2. Michelle, thanks for the herb tips! I haven’t had much success with them either.

SQ, that Herb garden is so sweet! What a nice gift. I also love the idea of a beautiful pottery mug to enjoy your daily cuppa.

My frugal luxury today will likely be some lovely homemade granola I made with yogurt. Such a healthy treat that feels like something naughty! (it’s a work day so only so many luxuries).

    3. We’ve been clearing out our house in preparation for selling the place, and a big comfy chair got moved by the front window as a placeholder.

Turns out it’s a spectacular place to sit with my coffee and a newspaper in the morning. Love it.

    4. Frugal luxury… sitting on the sofa with a cup of green tea (cream & sugar) in my favorite mug on my comfy sofa either reading a good novel or crocheting my little animal friends.

Nice herb garden. Watch the cat cuz mine loved my herb garden. :)

    5. Michelle - thanks. I look forward to warmer weather so I can sit my herbs outside! In the meantime I’m hoping that artificial light will suffice to keep them alive! I’ll have to make sure that Butternut does not snack on the plants. So far, so good - just sniffing - but I keep them away from her just in case.

Melaniesd - i LOVE homemade granola. It’s so yummy and you can enjoy it guilt free!

Kate - love that idea. How nice that it turns out to be such an inviting place to sit. Sounds so cozy.

Money Funk - your little animal friends are SO cute! Adorable!!

    6. Loved this post ! So simple. So pretty.

    7. Mm, a homegrown herb garden does indeed sound both frugal and luxurious. I love fresh basil and cilantro. Sadly, I’ve murdered every plant I’ve ever tried to nurture, including a low-maintenance corn plant. That one suffered a slow, torturous death.

    8. What a beautiful mug! That would definitely make my morning better.

    9. You have such a great attitude. I love your herb bowl, way cute.
