    What enriches your life?

If you completed exercise one, now is an excellent opportunity for reflection about what you discovered after organizing all your closets and cupboards.  Think about all the purchases you have ever made and all of the stuff you have accumulated over the years.  Is there anything that has truly made your life better by buying it?  When I think about all the purchases I have made, there are only a few that I can say have truly improved my life.  One is my Macintosh computer. I really love my Mac. Other great purchases include my kitten, and my coffee grinder. When you think about it, what really matters to you?  Reflecting on this can help bring you into awareness about what truly enriches your life… and chances are, very little of it actually has to do with inanimate objects.

Please share with us – what has been a purchase that has actually enriched the quality of your life?

    1. Good question! I have looked around our house at the stuff that we have, and realize that stuff doesn’t matter – those of us who live here do matter. So, what purchase has enriched my life? I guess there would be a few. The first would be our two cats, Bonzai and Jester – they are like first children. Next, my Dell laptop – which accesses the internet and through the internet was how I met my husband (9 years ago now). The other would be my digital camera(s). I have a Sony Cybershot – fairly old now, and a Sony Alpha 100. I love taking pictures of our family and posting them to friends and family. Seeing that family comes first, I love to have memories and pictures of the fun we have together. I am truly blessed.

    2. What a wonderful response. Thank you so much for sharing, Brenda!

    3. This is going to sound rather… shallow, but a pair of La Canadienne boots. They are ridiculously expensive- 350 bucks! but have made my quality of life measurably better.

      1) My feet are FINALLY warm and dry, even when it’s wet and cold out. For years, I shied away from buyign expensive boots because I figured it couldn’t possibly be worth it. All it got me was wet, cold feet and a mountain of crappy, worn-out, craggy-looking boots.

      2) I am no longer miserable and sore after a day at the office in heels. I appear to have found that mysterious H-Spot: Heels that don’t hurt, pinch, etc. and that I can wear all that. I thought such thigns were a myth!

      3) They make me feel hot. Like superwoman. Like I can do anything. (Weird, I know)

I also relish my camera, but that was a gift so it doesn’t count. Our food processor too. I didn’t think it would be worth the 40 bucks, so I put it off, but it has been wonderful. Less tiem in the kitchen, more time with the family.

    4. Wow, Kate, please share where you got these boots from!

    5. It’s a company called La Canadienne. They’re based out of Montreal. They have a flagship store there, but also sell out of other storeas in Quebec, Ontario, and the US. Their website is lacanadienne.ca

Not cheap, but so so worth it…

    6. I’d have to say my camera. I’ve always had one and my little compact digital is perfectly fine, but when I came into a small inheritance last Christmas, I decided that instead of paying down debt, I would buy myself a really good digital camera as a sort of gift from the person who bequeathed the money to me.

I love it and don’t regret a penny of what I spent on it. It lets me see the world in a whole new way – light, colours, shapes – and gets me outside into the fresh, albeit cold, air! :)
