So, I was planning on writing a blog about how lovely it is to bake your own bread and how ridiculous it is to buy a bread maker, and what a great money saving tip it would be to enjoy freshly baked bread in the house. Unfortunately the bread didn’t really come out as planned.  It was small and dense. Not inedible, but not exactly the kind of bread you look forward to eating, either. If anyone else has favourite bread recipes for me to try, I would appreciate it.  Otherwise, I think it’s back to Dempsters for me.

(Thankfully, I’m not the only one! Are there any other undomestic goddesses out there?)

    1. Try this one: http://jblog.nfshost.com/mt/blog/archives/2007_10.html#000753

It’s a foccaccia recipe, which simplifies the shaping. It’s good for sandwiches - you just cut it to the size you want it and slice it down the middle.

Judging by your picture, you used a fair amount of non-white flour. That makes it a lot harder. Try just using all purpose white or unbleached flour. If experimenting with grains or whole wheats, don’t go about 1/4 of whole wheat to white.

Found your site off Gail’s and have had a fun read.
